The house comfortably sleeps 12. There are six big, light and airy bedrooms and four bathrooms (2 en-suite).
Sitting Rooms
There is lots of space for relaxing without tripping over each other, with a large sitting room & separate snug/DVD room.
Relax by the river
The river is immediately below the house accessed via a covered river walk.
About the Mill
Il Mulino (a former olive oil mill) sits in an idyllic location above the confluence of two rivers, in the foothills of the Alpi Liguri. Here is a wonderful place to unwind and relax. You can enjoy doorstep walks, river swimming and cycling. You can explore picturesque little towns and sample incredible local food in the many restaurants dotted around. The sea is half an hour’s drive away, as is the fabulous daily food market in Ventimiglia.
The house is full of character, complete with the old mill race, stone rollers and presses. It is in a secluded yet accessible spot, a mile from both the small town of Pigna and the village of Castel Vittorio.
Guest access
45 miles from Nice airport (about 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive), and 14 miles north of Ventimiglia, the mill is a mile beyond Pigna. It is advisable to have a car – however, if some of the party do not drive there are 4 to 6 buses a day to Ventimiglia. You can also access Dolceacqua, Apricale and Rocchetta by bus. Once in Ventimiglia there are ample trains going both east, along the Italian Riviera to San Remo, Genoa and beyond and west, to Menton, Monaco and Nice.
The house has its own parking for up to 5-6 cars.
Other things to note
The house is built over many different levels and is not suitable for wheelchair users or anyone with restricted mobility. It is also worth noting that it is not very toddler friendly – as the river is more suited to older children.

Local Area
The house sits in the Nervia valley. Listed below are some of the main attractions, this list is by no means comprehensive!
Colle Melossa
This is the mountain behind the house – which you can hike to from Buggio in about 3 hours, or you can drive nearer the base in half an hour, or cycle There is a restaurant by the car park.
Pigna – a mile a away (walking distance)
The local town has a pizzeria, 3 bars, two alimentari for basic provisions and a restaurant that features in the Michelin Bib Gourmand. There are walks into the hills from the town and more natural river pools. July and August are festa months with something pretty much every week in either Pigna or one of the neighbouring villages.
Castel Vittorio – a couple of miles away
This atmospheric hamlet feels like it is lost in time. There is a local Osteria open at the weekends and a bar.
Dolceacqua – 7 miles away
A popular town nearer the sea – famous for its Rosesse wine and mediaeval bridge, once painted by Monet. There are several restaurants, bars and cafes.
Ventimiglia – 13 miles away
The nearest big town. Ventimiglia has a railway station and various supermarkets and a fabulous covered food market daily from 8am-2pm (except Sunday). Heading out of Ventimiglia towards France are the Hanbury botanical gardens. There are beaches at Calandre (sandy), Campo Rosso and along the seafront in town.
Bordighera – 14 miles away
A seaside town with handsome villas, beaches and a number of good restaurants. There is a popular general market along the seafront every Thursday.

Pricing and availability
Per Week
The house is available for 7 day rentals – we are flexible with check in and check out days – subject to availability – just drop me a line – juleshartley@outlook.com. The price is £2800 per week in June, July and August and includes all linen and towels and cleaning at the end of your stay.
Deposit and Cancellation
To book you need to pay a 25% deposit, with the balance due 30 days prior to arrival. Until the balance payment is made the booking can be cancelled and you will be refunded in full.
Arrival and departure
We operate a self check-in, from 3pm, and self check-out by 10am. We will provide maps and access instructions after booking is confirmed.
